Meet Our Eye Doctor in Edmonton, Alberta

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Dr. Shaminder Dhaliwal attended the University of Manitoba where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree.
Following his education in Winnipeg, he earned his doctor of optometry degree graduating Cum Laude at the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) in Chicago. While at ICO, Dr. Dhaliwal received many awards including Exceptional Tutor Award, Wildermuth Foundation Scholarship, and was a part of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometry Honorary Society. Additionally, he has been very involved being on the board of the Multi-Cultural Association, the Canadian Association of Optometry Students, and on the Manitoba Association of Optometrists council. His professional affiliations include the Alberta Association of Optometrists, Alberta College of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
Dr. Dhaliwal now calls Edmonton home where he enjoys exploring the cities hidden gems, watching and playing sports, learning the latest in technology and keeping up with men's fashion. He is happy to offer eye exams in both English and Punjabi.

Born in Ontario and raised in Edmonton, Dr. Nana Owusu holds a degree in Microbiology from University of Alberta, a degree in Health Studies from McMaster University, and a Doctorate degree from the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO). While at ICO, Dr. Owusu received numerous awards and honors including, but not limited to, the American Optometric Foundation Carl Zeiss Vision Fellowship, the Cribb Leadership & Service Award, the American Optometric Leadership Scholarship, and Colleague of the Year for 3 consecutive years, while maintaining his role as the President of the student body.While practicing in America, Dr. Owusu was an adjunct clinical advisor for the ICO Externship Program at a contact lens-based family practice in Florida.
Dr. Owusu's current professional affiliations include the Gold Key International Honor Society, the Alberta College of Optometrists, Manitoba Association of Optometrists, the Canadian Association of Optometrists, the Florida Optometric Association, and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Owusu was recently elected to be an active member of the Illinois College of Optometry Board of Trustees, and is also proud to serve as a member of the ICO Alumni Council as well as the student mentorship program. Dr. Owusu is happy to care for patients of all ages and with varying levels of health and wellness, although he does receive a large number of referrals specifically for pediatric patients and adults with systemic and/ or ocular disease.
When Dr. Owusu is not taking care of patients or spending time with family, he enjoys coaching high school football and playing a variety of sports.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Dr. Renee Phipps holds a degree in Microbiology and Zoology from the University of Manitoba and a Doctorate degree from Illinois College of Optometry. While studying in Chicago, Dr. Phipps received several excellence and achievement awards, including American Optometric Association Contact Lens and Cornea Section Student Research Award, the C. Payton Powell Scholarship, and National Vision Award, all while maintaining an active role in the student government at the College. Dr. Phipps was a contributing writer for the Contact Lens and Cornea Section of the American Optometric Association newsletter; her articles served as instructional tools for her colleagues and peers in the areas of contact lens care and anterior segment ocular disease.
Dr. Phipps has participated in a number of volunteer eye care services events, most notably a mission trip to San Carlos, Mexico organized by the Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity Organization and the World Health Organization to provide free eye care to the San Carlos area residents. Dr. Phipps' current professional affiliations include the Gold Key Honors Society, the Alberta College of Optometrists, Manitoba Association of Optometrists, Canadian Association of Optometry, the Florida Optometric Association, and the American Optometric Association.
Dr. Phipps is a busy mother of three, who enjoys working with other community members on boards, community associations and committees. In 2020, Dr. Phipps added to book author to her list of achievements. Her first children's book was released in 2020.
